>>Why so expensive? Potential market is still too small?

>Up until recently, we had still higher rates. ADSL is new, recently we only had something called "línea dedicada" - dedicated line. Not sure about the technology involved.
>
>The main reason rates were much higher is that there was a legal monopoly by one company. They had exclusive rights to long-distance phone calls, Internet connections, and similar stuff.
>
>This legal monopoly has ended November 2001. Now, prices are going down - but there is only one company currently offering ADSL. Other companies are making plans, but it will be a few more months.

It is nothing for me to download a 600MB iso file, which takes about 20-40 minutes. I could drop back from RoadRunner to 384KB ADSL, if I had to, but I wouldn't be happy with a 56KB modem, and would only use it for the occasional emails. Software would have to come from the company on CD. I expect, before I retire in about 10 years, to see intenet connection speeds at least 10-20 times my current 2Mbit RoadRunner speed. Then, everything will be coming through the web and little will be transmitted via commerical radio waves.
