Mao,
I've recently re-created an entire VFP application so that it presents in either English or Japanese. The first step for my particular solution involved changing the fonts for all the forms, reports, etc. from the standard Arial to Arial Unicode. The Unicode font is quite large in size and very comprehensize. It contains just about every character imaginable for all the major languages of the world. By using it, my application can display characters native to Japanese (or any other major language if required in the future).

The second part of this solution was to make sure that the data tables could properly accept and display the characters. This means that the table's code page needs to be compliant with the character set used. I chose code page 1252, Windows ANSI. It seems to do the trick for both languages.

Finally, to properly display the Japanese characters in my app, the Windows OS need by the Japanese version or it has to be switched to the Japanese language setting. If it's not native Japanese, you'll need to have Win2000 or later for your PC and then you'll be able to switch between languages.

I've had no problems with character fields in tables. I can't say if there would be any problem with memo fields (I don't use them for my particular app), but I wouldn't imagine that would cause problems.

Hope this helps.

>Hi, there's a project that I'm about to take that involves developing a web App in Japanese; Does any one has any bad experiences using VFP and a Japanese Chars Database; any problem mixing Japanese Memo Fields and English Memo fields in the same table.
