I believe I did admit that we are less restrictive than many countries. As far as being as "free as we can be" and still live peacefully, I think we're a ways off.

And this is especially important right now. Look at music, look at videos, look at ideas. We have done nothing to stop the barage of garabage designed to make those less free. Copryrights that last for ever, misuse of patents, the DCMA, RIAA. Look at our other personal freedoms. 1st and 4th amendment rights are nearly nonexist because of the Patriot Act. And yet, we've done nothing to reverse it.
