Though I don't actually recall it all, I do recall that FoxBase already allowed for more records, AND that somewhere in time Fox allowed for the 2GB.
Think of the 286 time. I don't think it would allow for that many addresses. Add to this (as what I recall) that at some stage Fox needed the 386.
