>it is a new module in an existing system. so i could use a framework. i am actually trying to implement an n-tier system with an interface, business rules, data layers where the data layer and business layer work off ADO recordsets to enable more then one type of database. it's just getting to the interface (which i also want to be interchangeable) that i am not sure how to handle the recordsets.
Hi, Jordon-
If it's new development, I'd really, really, really, really urge you to consider one of the professional frameworks. Everyone has their favorites. I'm starting a new project that uses VFE by F1 technologies (
http://www.f1tech.com/VFE/). Kevin McNeish has a lot of experience designing apps and is a lucid speaker/teacher/presenter, so you might have a look at OakLeaf's Mere Mortals (
http://www.oakleafsd.com/). Both of them are highly respected. There's also Visual MaxFrame, but I don't have any direct experience with that.
I wrote an example of using ADO with forms in an article for FoxTalk (
http://www.pinnaclepublishing.com/FT/FTmag.nsf/index/$searchForm!SearchView&Seq=1) . Normally I work on inherited systems so generally use the in-place architecture. For new work I think one would be rather nuts to not use a framework. JMO.
