Ok, we have installed the latest service pack of version 3 MSXML3R.DLL but after the installation we checked the file version. Ouch, the Windows CAB installation does not overwrite the file. Still the old version and no warning from MSFT.

Next we try to uninstall MSXML3R.DLL. No luck.

Went into command line at DOS prompt. Could not delete the file but we could rename it. Once it was renamed then the installation of MSXML3R.DLL correctly installed the proper files with version numbers that agree with MSFT's published version numbers.

Boy, building software is a full-time job.

>>We have been testing the installation of VFP 7.0 using Wise Installer. As part of the installation MSXML3R.DLL is written to the XP system directory. This Wise version of this file is 8.20.9370.0 and the XP version is 8.20.9307.1. The version 8.20.9307.1 is 10 bytes larger than the other file.

>>After the installation completes, XP shows the event viewer window that says that either the CD is not working or a system file has been corrupted. It prompts whether you want to fix the problem by putting in the XP CD. If you replace the file, the proper version is reinstalled.

>>Is anyone familar with this problem. Is the 10 byte difference due to MSFT signing the DLL?

>Can you configure Wise so that it doesn't overwrite files with new versions? I think there is a setting for this f a target file already exists. The default may be to always overwrite.
