Mike;

The 1973 “Oil Crisis” was the cause of long lines at gasoline stations in California. You would get in line 2 blocks away from the station. Up until then gasoline was 28.9 cents a gallon. We were told the Arabs were holding back production of oil. When that event was over there were some interesting things to consider. At that time it was reported we depended upon the Arabs for 6% of our total usage of oil. As I recall the price went to 74.9 cents per gallon and stayed there until the 1978 oil shortage, when it went up again.

About one year after the 1973 “Oil Crisis” was over, Mobil Oil took out a two page advertisement in several major magazines. They were telling us they had just spent $240 million in the previous quarter for oil exploration to insure an "uninterrupted supply of oil to the United States". All exploration was taking place in Arab nations. Such logic!

Last time I checked we were dependent upon Arab oil for 60% of our usage. I think the name of the game is to use up all Arab oil first and then open our fields at home. The worlds largest known oil reserve is said to exist under the Tehachapi Mountains, between Bakersfield, California and Los Angeles. The oil reserve is owned by the federal government and you will not tap into it! It exists so our military will have fuel when the rest of the world does not. We should be happy in the thought that our bombers and tanks will be the last ones to be operative.

Tom
