Well, that's great to know. I had already given up on there being a solution, so I had my macro put the subtotals in row 65536. It's the last one and I know that it is out of the filter range for the data I'm importing. Then I deleted all the rows between the subtotal and the data to move the subtotal up and keep it out of the filter.

My workaround fixes my subtotal / filter problem, but my users will go to row 65536 if they enter Ctrl-end. I'll add some more lines to my macro to clear those cells so that doesn't happen.

Thanks

>>Does anyone know the way to set what the data area is? There was a way to do this and it's probably still done the same way, but I can't remember what it was. I was thinking I assigned the area a name. I was thinking it was similar to how the cell range "print_area" is named when you set the print area. The assistant has been no help (bad dog or paperclip as the case may be).
