Probably the only justification for using winforms for front-end development could be (as Kevin Mcneish says in his book) Marketability.

We all know that today it is much easier to convince upper managment exec's and final customers to aprove the execution of a new software dev. project if we specify in some section of our proposal (in FONT size 72, BOLD and ITALICS) that we shall be using a .NET language to build the front-end part of the app.
To me this does not obey to one of the fundamental objectives of any engineering field, which consists in trying to provide at all times the most economically feasable solution to any givin problem.

Today, what counts is not who you are, it's what your wearing...
