I get this message when running select statements that output large amounts of data. I also get the error when I create a cursor and append the data to the cursor. On one day I may run a select statement and it will complete 80 percent before the error pop up. On other days, it may get up to 94 percent or no error will occur. How about changing the Windows temp folder to d:\temp, since you have so much more space there? Perhaps this folder is used in some cases, instead of the VFP temp folder.
