Worth noting that MS has changed the award criteria since the last discussion of this issue. MVP used to be for technical contribution to online communities, now I understand there are a much broader and more subjective criteria.

Even so, you'd be surprised how many people express sentiments similar to yours- but are not brave enough to say so publicly, which tells you a story in itself.

I might remind people of the truncated exchange between JVP and SB in which it was alleged that MVP status was a bargaining chip in a negotiation re supporting the MS position. This suggestion has not been rebutted and it places a question mark over the value of the award IMHO. All these uncertainties are a real shame for those who tirelessly support the community and deserve recognition. Certainly I would be disappointed if the degrees I worked so hard to achieve could be won by some other means.

To be very clear: I have no comment about who deserves the award. However, as a member of "the public" I am entitled to comment on an award whose selection apparently includes technical contributions to people like me. This is the UT, not Zimbabwe.
