ADO is the object-oriented successor to ODBC; it provides a significantly richer interface than DAO/RDO did via ODBC to other app language environments. You might want to start with John Petersen's ADO JumpStart whitepaper in the articles section of UT.

I think you need to read about ADO, and plan to switch very rapidly to VFP8 for the added functionality offered to different backends without traditional connection mechanisms using the CursorAdapter class.
