Your right - samba converts the RWX into the correct permissions on Linux. Check out Samba.org for info on setting up Samba. There are plenty of sites and news groups that discuss Samba. A nice guy named Jerry Kreps taught me how to use the google group lookup. So the first step is to check google group for Samba setups.
