Hi,
We have laptops with copies of a fox for DOS system on them. To update the main office system with the changes made to the databases on the laptops and visa versa users connect via modem to the office and run an in house program that copies all of the relevant database records to and from the laptop.

I have a problem with one of the laptops.

The laptop is running windows xp.
When I run the software to connect to the office a full size dos screen is displayed and instead of connecting the application just hangs. If I hit Ctrl-Alt-Del and choose task manager I find that there's an error message behind the dos window headed "16 BIT MSDOS SUBSYSTEM"

The message displayed is:

"The NTVDM has encountered an illegal instruction. CS:93c9 IP:dee5 OP:ff ff ff ff Choose close to terminate the application."

I get two choices, close and ignore.
If I choose ignore I get the same error message again.
If I choose to close the program carries on running and, although the modem does seem to connect to the office and handshake, no files are transferred.

There are records to transfer both to and from the laptop and I could be barking up the wrong tree but I can't help thinking that the fact that nothing transfers must have something to do with the error I'm getting.

Does anyone have any idea what this error message means?

Phil.
