This new guy is sticking to what he knows DB2 and JAVA like I'm sticking to what I know Microsoft and VFP. The problem is I don't have any big arguments because Microsoft won't commit to the future of VFP.

>>I'm currently working for Galileo Genomics inc, they just hire a new IT director that want to change all Visual FoxPro developepement to JAVA (J2EE).
>May be this is part of the presentation of the new boss. He promises something to the Board of Directors(something like future with any problems and solution for everything) and now he showld show something.
>>Did anybody ever do a business case on what would be the best programming tools to work with databases (SQL and ORACLE back-end)? Why would somebody promote JAVA over FoxPro when the entire compagny is running Microsoft product (Back Office suite, Office suite and Visual Studio).
>Yes we do. The best is FoxPro. There is PowerBuilder but it is more expensive. Why he promote I explain before that
>>Galileo is not a Web oriented company and need to produce result fast. I really don't understand why JAVA could improve
>>-Performance
>>-Developement speed
>>-Connectivity with Database
>>-Cost
>JAVA will improve spending for the development of the new system and cost of all your systems. may be there only one advantage if you use free products like Linux, MySQL, etc. But in my office have a joke - No fees/charges, No support, No warranty to work.
>>The only arguments I can find against VFP is Scalability of Microsoft Back Office and availability of Visual FoxPro resource.
>>
>>Need any feedback on this topic...
>>
>>Thanks
