Even if I settle on 50 meters thickness, what melted that??? Was it "global warming"? I guess it was. What caused that?...Is that 'event' still on-going?

I remember outcrys and actions regarding zebra mussels in the Great Lakes, purple loosetrife(sp?) in southern Canada, and several other issues of "foreign" wildlife overtaking native things. In the end nature handily addresses these things.

Jim;

I think the present administration, judicial system, newly elected congress, and senate of the United States will put its full effort towards doing the proper thing that will involve the environment. As I recall Bush stated, “global warming does not exist”. That was one of his longer sentences. I recall studying that the average 3 year old constructs sentences of 3.2 words. Bush is close to that in ability and perceived chronological age.

Also Bush stated, we have to drill for oil because “we have a weak economy”. The only time I have heard him address the state of the economy is when oil is involved.

Let us begin with drilling new wells in Alaska, and off the shores of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Then we will drill in everyone’s front and back yard. As a last resort all buildings will be removed and oil derricks will take their places. Once that is accomplished we will begin drilling all over the nations and oceans of the world in the name of democracy, freedom, economic stability, and globalization.

As far as global warming I recall studying the effects of the Ice Age in college and what it takes to “enter an Ice Age”. We were taught a difference of 0.4 C average world temperature will cause an Ice Age to begin or end. It has been about 10,000 years since the last Ice Age. I do not think we will be around to enjoy any such event changing the temperature a great deal from what we now experience. My Geology teacher stated, “10,000 years is but a pin hole in geologic time”! That is alright as long as that pin does not stick anyone!
