>>> On another subject, however, I do find it interesting that things have not settled down much at all even with the goals Palestinians have been vocalizing for years put forward as a goal by the U.S. also (a Palestinian state). Hmmmmmmmm....

>>You mean, Israel has agreed to give back the territories it occupied in 1967, and to enforce UN resolutions in that regard? I'm seriously outdated, lacking good source of news - the BBC on NPR is getting more and more frequently skipped.

>Not likely. The U.S. agreed to work towards a Palestinian state, but what exactly Israel will give up to accomplish this is still to be determined. One of the conditions of course was for the violence to end. Since that has not happened, of course nothing further has been done regarding a Palestinian state. Makes you wonder who NOW is perpetuating the violence, the Arab states or Israel??????? Who stands to gain (or lose) the most???? I know anything is possible of course, but it sure looks like the instigators have switched roles here lately....

Tracy;

One thing I have heard for the last few years is that the Israelis continue to establish Israeli settlers in Palestine territories, which is not what was agreed. This has been a serious issue and depending upon which Israeli administration is in power, something will be done. What that something is becomes clear after a short period. Send in less or more Israeli settlers to aggravate the situation.

There are many sides to this issue with the truth being unclear. Each side has a truth and we see the end result on the 6 PM news. Have you ever seen a map of the territories in dispute? Interesting as I recall.

It seems interesting that the British had much to do with the creation of Israel at the expense of Palestine and the creation of Pakistan from India, etc. Both were created at about the same point in time and continue to be two of the greatest trouble spots on the face of the earth. From what I gather there are more Muslims living in India than Pakistan and they live in peace. Draw a line around someone and you get nationalism. Take someone’s land away and you have a problem that will not go away.

The problems of the world are numerous and there are many opinions from we armchair decision makers. Our problem is that “we do not see the big picture”. The wheeling and dealing behind the scene is unknown to us.

Take a “simple decision” like FDR and Stalin made. The USSR will help fight the Japanese when the war in Europe is over. In exchange Korea and Viet Nam will be divided at the 38th and 17th parallels. Land to the north of those points will be communist. Land to the south “democratic”.

We celebrate VJ day earlier than the Russians. You see, the Russians were still fighting the Japanese after the rest of the world had signed the “peace treaty” with Japan.
