>I'm behind in my postings so I'll leave the analysis for others. I love this line, though -- A consultant with a leading IT services firm I recently spoke with likened Microsoft's .NET vision to "a spell-checker for rent over the Internet for Word."

This really shows how uneducated people can be who are journalists and editors. People who think .NET is only about subscription based web services are not well educated and/or not very technical. There is a .NET vision about connecting systems, devices, and people, mainly based on XML Web services. But that is separate from things in a tool like VS .NET including ASP.NET web pages. For example, creating an ASP.NET web page in using VS .NET connected to a VFP app via OLEDB, VFP COM DLL, or VFP via XML Web service has nothing to do with a subscription service over HTTP.
