If it works in a column, I can't see any reason why it would not work in a container.

Perhaps if you provided some for info on how you are actually trying to code this ...

And if by "InputMask" you mean it will be used for data entry, that is one thing ... for display only purposes, it is usually easier to "dynamically" alter the ControlSource; eg. = "IIF( ..., ..., ...)", etc.
