Yes, you are absolutely correct! If you have tons of client-server GUI-based VFP apps, you will be able to access them from Arnica WebPortal portlets and expose their functionality on the web. You would probably have to change a bit of their entry point methods to make them capable to accept parameters and return something else. And, to answer your other questions – you could make them integrated with Arnica UnifiedLogon to participate in single-signon session together with other apps.

The whole idea, which is new in VFP world, is to build applications based on loosely coupled objects and integrated in web portal container pages. This is where enterprise development goes, and other tools like Java, PHP already have their portals. VFP was left behind and therefore we, VFPier “were not invited for a meeting”. Arnica WebPortal is the first VFP-based web portal enterprise platform, which brings all these features to VFP developers in their native environment, and more - it allows to integrate other components together with VFP-based ones – such as .NET, or J2EE-based.

The VFP scripting extends functionality of Arnica webPortal, Arnica WebReport, Arnica FormServer and other tools. You can create your PRG files with custom logic, they are automatically compiled on a fly – providing “deployment-free” web-based application environment.

With Arnica WebPortal you do not have to learn ASP, Java, JavaScript, etc! Of course, it is always good to know more languages, but with Arnica Webportal, VFP is all you need to create portal-based scaleable web-based applications. Very easily you could also integrate your existing .NET and Java applications together with VFP-based portlets.

It seems to me that brining VFP back into portal-based enterprise arena is the only way for VFP programmers to survive, and also take their leadership back! Insecurity of Java programmers is in data-driven area – this is where we VFP pros excel. And now with VFP web-based portal we could beat them in their own game and do it faster and in a significantly lower cost.
