Well, it can only be 3 things then, the network card in the XP machine (drivers? replacement?), the LAN/WAN you are accessing the server over, or the server itself.

Sounds to me like the network is failing, then timing out, unless of course, it happens at exactly the same moment, everytime.

I wouldn't be too quick to say it's XP, we use XP Professional in over 2,500 PC's on the LAN/WAN and I personally access 7 servers on the WAN and LAN on a daily basis, and never once had a problem that was down to XP.

>Something is wrong with Windows XP, especially Service Pack 1. I don't have the time or desire to figure out all of the problems, but some of the symptoms are as found in this same item, which include drive mapping being lost and a very noticeable slowdown in transmission speed.

Try checking the obvious things first, change the network card, the cables, before making that assumption.

>Microsoft has really made a loser operating system this time. Perhaps there is just too much in that product. Whatever the rpoblem, it does not serve our needs nor our clients' needs reliably and will be canned. What a waste of money for us and our clients!!!

I must admit, they have concentrated on the less-important aspects of operating systems, and seem to have slumped in the important, every-day features.

Like when you delete a file in explorer, you have to refresh to make the file actually dissapear from display.
