In re-thinking this, I'm not so sure it's possible. There's an API call involved (I think, but can't find it) that's used for the printing progess/ability to cancel among other things. I'm not sure if the HCALLBACK and additional window information can be null. If not it's not possible.
This is not to say that you can't have an in process server, with some help, instruct an out of process one to do the work.
