Thank you for the reply. Michel's post gave me a hint to use the textarea's.style.width property. In IE (I'm using the web browser ActiveX control on a VFP form) if I set the textarea's style.width="100%" it works as I required. The thing that is confusing me now is the fact that it doesn't matter what I set the textarea's cols value to, it doesn't seem to make any difference in the appearence. This doesn't seem to be a problem for me and I was just fooling with the setting to see that it would do.
