Where I worked we had two large FoxPro 2.6 apps that used Stonefield Data Dictionary and App Maker. In App Maker they gave the ability to assign a timeout value. After the timeout, the screen (now we call them forms) would close. If an edit was in progress, I believe it would simply discard the edit. I think that in an environment where management believes there are security issues, they should use the Windows tools at their disposal to handle things like this. If a user tends to walk away with an application running, he/she should have the screen saver in Windows come on in a fairly short interval and have it password protected. Let the application programmers be concerned about making the application impliment the business rules. My former boss had this on his whiteboard:
1. Make it work.
2. Make it work fast.
3. Only then make it pretty.

>Yes, I agree on that one. And that is probably the reason I don't have any practical experience with these techniques.

>Some people simply want to lock the application after a certain timeout, but I didn't see the need for this in my own applications.
