I would think that sending to the print spooler, VFP should not even need to know if the printer is even there. However, I know that many people want confirmation that a report sent to the printer actually printed but I don't think that is possible with Windows.
I think that it is possible to know if the report printed. One would need to test it against an off-line printer, but Cathy Pountney (and others) have posted the tip for telling if a report printed. Well, that might help somewhat in the case you mention.
As for the spooler...printed _when_ is the issue. Even if it's been completely spooled, it may be 10th print job in the queue.
