Several things come to mind from practical experience that make it almost impossible for your program to know "for sure" that your report actually printed or printed correctly:
1. The report may have been completely spooled but subsequently deleted from the print queue before being sent to the printer.
2. The report gets sent to the printer and the printer is out of ink or runs out in the middle of printing.
3. Someone turns off or resets the printer after the report has left the print queue due to paper jam or other problems.
As hard as we try, we cannot always effectively handle all Murphy's law situations or acts of God ;<)
