I do not know this to be a fact, I am just guessing because I no longer do it this way. I also do not have Supervisory access to a Novell server to test.

In the old days, this had to be done in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. In Novell, it does have to be done in the login script. Otherwise, any env variable set during a command session initiated after bootup/login gets released as soon as you exit the command session. I seem to recall there may have been a utility that would do this after bootup thought. What is is called or where you could get, I have no idea.
