I recall your situation, but ruled it out because I haven't yet applied all of the RI links between primary keys in my database. The most I have is 1 RI link between tables that participate in 1:many forms. However, I do have more than 8 RI links, but not to the same primary key.

Are you saying that more than 8 RI links across multiple primary keys could be causing the problem? Or, 8 RI links to the same primary key?

I just created a test database containing only one table and it is opened by Crystal 9 without incident.
