>But it does not have to only be used for servers. Look at what Apple has done. My children were able to setup connections to windows servers in minutes from the Apple. And now Apple has even have a better browser. Setting up printers is even easy. So why can't the Linux programmers get it done?

John - you and I will disagree on this point.
I LEARNED linux from reading all the stuff i could get my hands on, READING the kernal source code, and installing to the same box over 40 times in a one week period. That was 7 years ago now. I can't think of slapping UNIX with xWindows to a USER unless they have a degree in computer science. [THERE - there's my caveat... :)] But I have seen people without degrees using linux and xFree86 cause they:
1. read the docs
2. chose 'standard' hardware that had drivers existing
3. really wanted to make it work
4. understood about the the O/S.
5. chose Linux over anything else.

MACs come with the OS preinstalled.
HAVE YOU EVER wiped a drive and re-installed? How's that process?
---
I really don't want to argue with you - but the fun thing about macs is that you never had to UNDERSTAND the operating system to get anything to work.
just point and click. That was always the moniker.
---
I am not a user.. I'm a developer. I dug into O/S stuff with the same gusto as learning programming languages. Architecture is a pain in the @ss, always -
---
I HAVE NEVER thought that linux would replace MAC's on anything other than servers. But where is the MAC SERVER these days????

mondo regards [Bill]
