Hey SB,

You are, of course, right! (I just checked :) So its even worse than I thought because if you add some data to an existing memo field then it re-writes the entire memo data again at the end of the FPT - but this does make sense in a way since how else to handle data deletions etc. So, the PACK just removes all the old redundent copies of the memo field.
