Hi Terry,
I ghosted my XP Pro system using Ghost 2003 successfully. There is information on Symantec's website regarding the XP licensing issue after ghosting that you should read.

Some other information that may be pertinent:

Microsoft's Knowledge Base provides a fix to reset the default security provider within Windows XP by deleting the following keys in the Windows registry:

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Cryptography\Providers
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-20\Software\Microsoft\Cryptography\Providers

And, to reset the drive letter of the system drive, by using one of the following methods:

undo the action that changed the drive letter of the system drive.

If you can access the registry editor, update the drive letter for the changed system drive in the Windows Registry by locating the following registry key

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Cryptography\Defaults\Provider

and change the drive letter in the ImagePath value setting to match the new drive letter for the system drive.

>Hello,
>
>I am running Windows XP Professional. I have a 20GB C drive. I would like to install a new 80GB C drive. I tried to use Symantec Ghost 2003 to clone the drive; unfortunately, I received an error about Windows Product Activation when I tried to boot from the new drive.
>
>The cloning process appeared to go without a problem. The computer booted OK from the new drive and went to the password signon screen. When I entered my password and hit enter, I received the following error:
>
>"A problem is preventing Windows from accurately checking the license for this computer. Error Code: 0x80090006."
>
>I called Microsoft and they basically said that Ghosting was not a good idea - that it caused more problems that it was worth - etc., etc. They recommended a complete re-install of software to the new drive.
>
>I would prefer not to have to re-install everything. Does anyone have any "positive" experience Ghosting a C drive? If so, I would appreciate a small step-by-step tutorial. If not, please let me know and I will set aside some time for the software re-install.
