You are correct, I'm looking at the code again, to try and see what it is doing exactly, I oversimplified on my first question. In fact it starts by opening exclusive, and then if it cant'cause another workstation has it, it tries again, as SHARED.

VALIDATE DATABASE will run whether it's open SHARED or EXCLUSIVE, it just won't do the rapair if its not exclusive.
