You shouldn't go changing the users desktop resolution. It violates one of the basic tenets of Windows that says the user is in charge of their system configuration. And besides that it might not be possible, the notebook I'm using right now has a 1024x768 resolution this is a physical device limit. If the resolution is lowered it looks like crud because the pixels enlarge, if the resolution is increased the screen becomes a logical viewport onto the total display making it hugely annoying to use.

You can use sysmetric() to tell the user that they need to change the resolution, and let them decide the how and when they want to change it.
