It's hard to believe that that with all the object programming being done these days that the CMM community hasn't found a better way to deal with this. Maybe there is. I'll keep hunting and pass along whatever I find.

Understand perfectly. I recently have begun teaching some of my fellow programmers here good coding techniques. In one instance, I was asked to look at some code to see how it could be made better. It was only 28 lines long, but wasn't well written. When I got done with it, it was 18 lines long (could've been 16 but two lines were simply for the purpose of clarity). Not only was it shorter, it was easier to understand and performed better.
