I remember researching propogation delay in satellite transmissions in college, and have personally seen that (you can see it too every night on the news when they are talking to a reporter somewhere overseas). But there has been a lot of fiber laid between the us and europe... and the delay is probably not noticeable with that medium. You will probably have to just test yourself.
