Never trust a user. I asked them to phone me the next time it happened so I could take a look. Turns out that wheh they hit the back button what tey are getting is a jsp error. I'll have to troubleshoot this a bit but at least now I know it's not a time-out issue. Probably just a client-side IE problem.
