>In your country, are all of your military bases well out of the way of civilian centres. I know in this country, several of your airforce bases are very close to civilian towns. Was that intentional, in order to reduce the likelihood of your airforce personnel being attacked ?

Most military installations are located where they are in foreign countries because those locations were originally a military site for the host country and it was provided to the U.S. for its use. I've lived on several military installations that used to house host country troops.

In our country, the location depends on many things: supplies, routes, airfields, jobs for the military dependents, weather, terrain, training, the senators in the state and their wishes, etc. All military installations have least some type of civilian population surround them (here in and around Fayetteville, the population surrounding Fort Bragg is 100,000). In most cases, the civilian population built-up LONG AFTER the military installations were in place and running. People looking to increase their economic success selling to the military and their families relocated to the towns and cities within a 50 mile radius of a military installation.
