I know of a VFP shop that hired a high school kid for $10 an hour in San Jose. The kid knew some VFP and it worked out as the owner wanted. For an adult not supporting a family that would be too little.
I saw a full time job for a senior VFP programmer (lots of additional experience required) for $28K per year at a Medical University in our area. That seemed absurd but the position was filled.

One more thought: On television they interviewed several people working in San Jose, California, making $50,000 who live in his/her cars. They cannot afford rent which is very high in our area.
