The really, really sad thing to me was, every story that discussed someone who had been downsized in the Valley and has been looking for work for a substantial time (8 months - 2 years), had a sentence mentioning a failed marriage / relationship during the unemployed timeframe.

Perry;

We just got the latest unemployment figures for Silicon Valley over the weekend, which is 8.6%. This takes into account only those persons collecting unemployment insurance from the state of California. After 6 months you are no longer considered unemployed as you no longer are eligible to collect unemployment insurance. How many people are actually unemployed in this Valley? 12%? 15%? Who knows? If we knew the truth it might shock some folks.

They had a feature on the news about some programmers that had been out of work for over a year and changed career fields. One went into the Sheriffs Department and was two weeks away from graduating and got fired because of budget cuts related to the state monetary problems.
