You don't really believe that there is secret contact with Iraqi generals, do you????

This is known as "propaganda" and is calculated to be particularly effective in a place ruled by a criminal like Saddam. It can be anticipated, once Saddam hears of this, that there will be general distrust by Saddam and (more) paranoia in his generals, all at a particularly sensitive time when unanimity is critical.
