Don,
Others are giving you the "how to". I just want to offer an observation...
I've done/do lots of work from home on a contract basis. I personally find that I get much more done and that the company comes out ahead in the bargain.
Generally I start (after obtaining project 'details' and my part in them) by giving *my* assessment of what I will deliver when and "negotiating" agreeable dates/work with the project leader.
In some cases I find a need for lots of communication as work progresses and in others hardly any.
now the observation... I have encountered only two "types" when it comes to commissioning off-site work:
1) Those who believe it is a boondoggle;
2) Those who believe it works well.
It is quite easy to detect type #1 and in those cases I offer to come in and work permanently on-site and I might also consider (haven't yet) agreeing to depart at the earliest opportunity.
Such types MIGHT come around to realize that it is a good method to get work done but I don't need the hassle of mis-trust, nor do I feel the need to be the one that convinces such a type on the value of the approach.
