>>Thanks for the reply. I considered WSH based on an earlier search of the archives, but since we do not feel we can rely on it being available on all of our customers' machines, Windows 9x machines especially, I ruled out using it.

>Probably, the only place it would be a worry is on a Win95 box running IE 4 or before. You might want to take a look at the first in the series of articles that the late Ed Rauh and I did on the WSH in the VFUG (www.vfug.org). It appeared in the September, 2000 issue of the newsletter and is available on-line at the site.

>The only reason I suggest your reading it is that you know what platforms and browsers are in use. You might find, after reading the article, that you might be able to employ the WSH after all. Ed, in his usual thorough manner, wrote most, if not all, the stuff on where it's installed and what installs it.

Don't forget that some people may disable it on purpose, due to a (perhaps faulty) reasoning, that the WSH a) isn't really useful for anything, and b) can be used to spread viruses.
Difference in opinions hath cost many millions of lives: for instance, whether flesh be bread, or bread be flesh; whether whistling be a vice or a virtue; whether it be better to kiss a post, or throw it into the fire... (from Gulliver's Travels)
