Hi
Im in the process of implementing EDI for one of my clients. The first thing that hit me was the concept of header and detail records (with different structures) necessitating the use of low-level writes.
Secondly because those who draft EDI specifications are beanies rather than data experts there is a great tendency to make assumptions about data.
For example when dealing with worldwide data I was asked to put the appropriate zipcode into a detail line. What the beany doesn't know is that the zipcodes on incoming data are in no fixed position, thus necessitating worldwide geographical tables to handle what appears to be a simple request.
I could go on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
