Sorry... For not getting back to you sooner but software waits for no one. They were data analysts that defined the EDI rules up front the problem is they all added their own little rules within the rules that they defined. It still continues today. For any data elements that you could have a table probably does exist but finding it will be costly in time and/or money. Look up tables can be or created on the fly, programmatically that is.

In general you are correct… Code will be the answer. I’ve been there - done that - and will do that again. Low level coding is important but one thing to try and do when you start out is to make it dynamic and if you have to create a table do it.

I could have said – you are on the right track – but that is not much fun… Yikes!
