sorry - i didn't have it enabled. It is now :{

>Ok, I'll go as you recommend. That will be ok as long as not more than 4 PC are required to hook to the hub, right? I assume the connectivity of the incoming Internet connection is using another port of entry.

>>you hard connect to either box (WAP or WRT) to configure it standalone, you need a RJ45 e-port to do this. Then hard connect it to your network. The primary configuration would be its network address and things such as wether or not it will be a DHCP server. The wireless properties are a seperate step (you could do all at once but,) make sure the box has a way to be addressed after you finish.

>So, basically, if I understand correctly, the current IP which is assigned dynamically to my PC, which changes occasionnaly, will then be used by the hub and the PC and the laptop will then have assigned fixed IP. From the hub, those IP will be entered and only those will have access to it, correct?

This is my current network

CRUD - I JUST LOOKED AT THIS IN PREVIEW AND THE NICE PICTURE IS TRASHED.
YOU CAN RESERECT IT BY LINING UP the three colums of "|" and or HELP -
HOW DO I PRESERVE THE FORMATTING AND I WILL RESEND THE PICTURE

picture follows:

incoming ---> linksys BEFSR41 ( 4 port DSL ROUTER + SWITCH )
DSL | 192.168.1.1 does DHCP for my network
| dynamic addresses 100 .. 149
|-linksys WRT54G
| 192.168.1.2 (config'd static)
| | DHCP disabled / no connection to WAN port
| | |
| | z
| | |
| | laptop - with WIRELESS PC-CARD
| | 192.168.1.103 (assigned by DHCP)
| | WIRELESS LINKED to WRT54G
| |- AXIS CAMERA
| 192.168.1.99 (static ip)
| hard linked to WRT54G
|-W2k Server
| 192.168.1.10 (confi'd static)
|
W98 machine
192.168.1.101
(DHCP configed )

so,
the BEFSR41 is DSL gateway / DHCP server
WRT54G is just a switch and Wireless Access Port -it just passes
DHCP requests to the LAN - no router functions enabled

during its initial configuration (WRT) I made it 192.168.1.2 and I can change the wireless settings from anywhere on the network.

if you don't have any existing box like the BEFSR41 you can make the WRT54G serve as the internet gateway and have both hard and wireless connections made through it - but you will then have it located within hard cable length of your CABLE or DSL modem.

I hope this makes some of the discussion clearer - EXCEPT THE TRASHED PICTURE
