Then the only way is to copy stuff into a blank form (grid first) object by object, so to see who's doing these nasty things to the poor grid.

Actually, I did that, and ended up with a basic form class, a basic grid, and the same problem. I ended up posting a new thread where it got solved. The problem seems to be that you can't set the column backcolor in the property sheet when it's on a form class. It has to be manually set in code in the init. Strange, huh?
Anyway, I'm heading out and offline until Saturday. Thanks everyone for helping me with this problem.
