We currently have an old legacy system (Germplasm Documentation System)
running in several of the developing countries in Latin America, Asia, and
West Africa. The software used for this application was Foxpro version
2.0. For obvious reasons, although the old system has held on fairly
well, it has come time for even these developing countries to take
advantage of some of the newer software technology. As the original
software was based on Foxpro, I was curious as to whether it is possible,
and if so, what might be the suggested migration path to the most recent
production release of Visual Foxpro. Are we looking at a re-write of the
application or is it at all possible to go through a relatively short
conversion process with the existing code which we can then take to add
new flourishes and features more consistent with todays technology. In
essence, we are looking for a short term solution to take care of some
obvious requests (e.g. most persistent is to move away from a character
based DOS application to a windows based GUI application) as we pursue a
more extreme overhaul of the product over the long term.

Any advice or recommendations you may provide is greatly appreciated.
