Hey, so you found a fix, good. It sounds like caching, but so what - if it works, it works, and we will not argue with a working solution!

Probably not related at all, but just as a comparison to your problem, I found 2 very distinct differences when I went to Win2K Server and WinXP local last year, up from NT4 Server/WorkStation (and some 98SE):

1) If a net printer is not warmed up now, printing from any app (especially Outlook) causes not only a long print-message delay, and a very long time to print, but some click events in different apps do not fire at all while print jobs are still active, even after the print message closes. On NT4/98/95/NT Server printing was always very smooth. This on the exact same machines with only different OS, this huge print difference happens. We have given up on a solution, except to keep the printers warm :-)

2) Oppositely, net file copies are just incredibly fast under Win2K server/WinXP local. Like the file copies are maybe *5 times faster* than under NT4Server/NT4WS/98 OS. A 20MB file copy from server-to-server is now instantaneous, it's almost unbelievable it's so fast. Again, exact same machines.

Just examples of some other weird behaviors, probably mostly just due to some certain configurations in my network environment, somewhat like maybe you are having.
