If we change the default, we'll have to include a setting in the account setup so anyone who wish to keep it will be able to. But, we'll add a mention that proceeding further than the view of the message, when outside the messages area, either by changing such a default or by forcing a right click open in a new window, will provide the message as is but from that point no additional support could be provided.

I don't understand why you say all this change is required...
When I click on the Map it appears in the same window that I click the icon in, so why cannot a message clicked in THAT map also be displayed in that same window (overlaying the Map which overlayed the message)?

I like the default as-is. I just don't want a message requested in one window appearing in another ALREADY OPENED window.

I don't see any need to have new/changed defaults from what already exists. And if it really requires that kind of a change, then forget about it.
