Jim, I have a problem with understanding what "better" means here. Is it better in the sense that a Mercedes is better than a Tempo? There are millions of satisfied owners of the latter. I asked before if benchmarks exist to compare the performance/scalability of SQL Server/MSDE to VFP (not the HP 64 processor box benchmarks, but a typical single/dual/(maybe) quad processor setup)? Can you (or anyone else) quantify the risks of using DBFs vs SQL Server beyond saying the latter is better? What are the typical odds of data loss/corruption with DBFs vs. SQL Server/MSDE? Managers can use this information in assessing the cost/benefit of one platform over another. The risks may prove acceptable in one situation and unacceptable in another.
